Title: STM MK2
Post by: AmpDesigner333 on 11 Sep 2019, 09:08 pm
We’ve been working on this in the background for more than a year....

Using some of the Cherry MEGA MK2 tweaks, we are able to get even better performance from the Stereo Maraschino!   These tweaks are labor-intensive.

More details to follow.

We will have an upgrade program for STM MK2 soon as well.

I like that you're not resting on an already spectacular amp but always striving to make it better! Can't wait to hear about how it sounds compared to the current STM. Keep up the good work Tommy!!!! :D

Oooh! So you can upgrade existing units? Looking forward to hearing the difference.

Yes, it's possible to do that, but it's labor intensive....

I'll just buy a new one. I have multiple systems that need quality amplification. LOL  :D

Thermal test results are in !!

Original KING STM (60V): 5.9W standby, 17.6W idle, 23°C temperature rise during idle
KING STM MK2 (60V): 4.2W standby, 12.0W idle, 17°C temperature rise during idle

We use the "force on" mode (right switch controls power mode) to disable sleep mode for idle power and temperature measurements.  This way, we give the STM plenty of time to "warm up", typically half an hour.

Power levels are measured from the AC Line into the 60V 1kW Maraschino power supply.

So what does this all mean?  :D

The STM MK2 runs significantly cooler than the original STM.  Considering that, plus lower THD+N across the board, means that the MK2 mods are a success, just like the Cherry MEGA MK2 mods.

We ran some new performance tests recently, and the original STM measures <0.02% at 10W into 8Ω.  The STM MK2 measures <0.009% at 10W into 8Ω.  We will do more extensive tests after we get more boards in.
