the 7B's do look interesting!   The BDA-1 is very good though.

Hi mitcho,

My spies tell me your 7B's should leave early next week.

Nice review, but I feel the BDA-1 is far superior to the Benchmark.

I agree with you.   I owned the Benchmark for a couple of years.  it was really bass shy.  I am finding a better bottom end with the BDA-1.   more warmth.

Especially for a digital source the bass should be bigger.

that is why the Benchmark seems to have such pronounced mids and highs,  the bottom end is recessed.

that was quick.   they arrived today.  Just picked up the boxes.  They are in the trunk of the car.  Something to do this evening.

Thanks James for the quick service.  Exceptionally quick.

first impressions-    very good system with the 7B's.   Impressed with the depth of stage considering it is a SS amplifier.  Not used to having quite that depth with a SS amp.   Added another octave of bass to the mix.   My prior amp was a very good 50 wpc Class A amp, but of course it could not match the bottom end of the 7B's.  Seems to give me the warmth/ presence of the Class A.

While you are getting a lot of detail and openess, you are not getting any grain or etchiness.   Good bloom to the mids and bass.

I had heard a BP26 and a 3B SST (not squared) a number of years ago and it was not up to the BP26 and the 7B SST2.   Quite a difference in the detail at lower gain.

Very nice system.   7B SST2, BP26 and BDA-1.   Have only been listening to my Squeezebox through the BDA-1 so far.   Will spin some vinyl later.   Should be good as well.

thanks James for getting it out quickly.  It was much appreciated. :thumb:

It doesn't work on my MAC G5 Tower but it did work on my back-up PC, my Dell XPS.

HI All,

I just received a terrific review on the BDA-1 DAC from an Australian magazine. I do not have the rights to publish it on the web yet but they did say I could distribute it. So if you want the PDF send me an email at jamestanner@bryston.com.

They were so impressed they even featured us on the front cover!

Conclusion

"During my considerable time with Bryston's BDA-1 I put it through a myriad of music challenges and it impressed on every one. Externally, it's a simple design that nevertheless provides comprehensive connecting options. Internally, it showcases Bryston's engineering and superb technical ability.

Musically, the BDA-1 resolves dense mixes in a way that maintains the integrity of the music. Its smooth midrange and treble performance allow long non-fatiguing listening sessions, but the BDA-1 does not compromise detail, dynamics and immediacy in doing so. In fact, be prepared to also be startled by its dynamic prowess and bass power.

If you're in the market for a DAC, it's time to open your wallet!"
