In the works...
« on: 27 Jun 2008, 12:34 pm »
Here are a few new designs that may be of interest...

1) A new mini-monitor featuring a Seas W16 magnesium cone woofer and Fountek ribbon tweeter. These are also small enough to be considered as very high-end surrounds.

2)A symmetrical array kit design for a Texas customer with BG planars and Peerless 3" woofers.

3) MTM's with Seas W16's and Fountek ribbons.

4) A slightly larger Alexandrite (nine woofers and nine ribbons per array), three front arrays for a home theater!

5) Budget array surrounds for a Canadian customer with planar tweeters and 4" metal cone woofers.

I just finished the "S6" design. This combination of the Seas 6" magnesium cone woofer and Fountek ribbon tweeter is the best monitor you'll find at this price and easily competes with anything in the $3K or less range. The cost for an assembled pair is $1,295 and the cabinet is 12"x8"x9" (HxWxD). This is a sealed box that's perfect for integration with a subwoofer, -3db @70hz and -10db @41hz. Very quick and detailed with an open and precise midrange. 4-ohm impedance, sensitivity will vary from the mid to upper 80's depending on the placement (I've designed it with two different crossovers for use close to or away from the rear wall).

Very cool thanks!  Which center channel and monitors (of yours) would you say would be the best match  for these in a 5.1 system?

And do you have a kit price yet?

Im very close to formulating an order from you.

Thanks again!

$850 / pr. or $425 / each in kit form (no cabinets included). The Sardonyx center channel and Tanzanite mains are the best match for a 5.1 system. Five of the S6's (assuming vertical placement for the CC) would be exceptional.  :thumb:

Actually that's a midrange driver even though it's a 7" cone. This design will have the C92 woofer (perfect for a sealed box) and C44 mid. Like the Tanzanite or RC3R on steroids!

That's a difficult question but I tend to prefer the C92 in a 2-way and can easily live with either one in a 3-way. The C92 is designed for a sealed box while the W18EX is optimized for ported cabinets.

Rick... obviously it's too early to get too specific, but what do anticipate the F3 and F10 to measure? What about sensitivity? Thanks! Just thinking out loud... I bet it would be pretty easy for you to design a WMTW center channel if you had a willing customer.

Actually I already have the F3/F10 measurements from a previous project. It's -3db @52hz and -10db@32hz. We always provide accurate nearfield measurements to show the real bass extension of our products. Unfortunately many other ID speaker manufacturers don't and you should ask them why.

The sensitivity will probably be in the 84db range based on prior designs with the C92's. This is for a 2-channel system but it certainly is possible to have a matching WMTW center channel. The mid dome adds expense to the CC but a small ribbon just doesn't go low enough with dual 7's for an optimal horizontal MTM design.
