Hello everyone.

I was originally shooting for the Grandeurs for my next speakers. However, my present financial situation precludes the realization of that dream. So I am lowering my sights to monitors costing $1000 assembled. At this price, what Selah design will bring me closest to the Grandeur in terms of sound quality?

Your inputs will really be appreciated. Thank you.

Daniel

Well, the SSR would be closest to the Grandeur since they use the same woofer, however, unless you can build the cabinet yourself, it exceeds your $1000. In addition to the Grandeur I have the Aura Jr. Which is a nice little speaker, but limited in how loud it can go, and a great example of a clean fast speaker. It makes an interesting contrast to the Grandeur. It is very detailed, but it doesn't match the scale and the warmth I get with the Grandeur.

While I haven't heard it, I would suspect that the Vicino would strike a good middle ground. I like the SB tweeter that's in the Aura Jr., and imagine that the SB woofer would share some of the same characteristics as the Scan Speak Revelator woofer in the Grandeur.

I would vote for the Vicino.  :thumb:

I own Rick's SSR as well as his Garnet.

The SSR still garners lotsa smiles when I have people
listen or borrow them.

Chuck makes some good points...regardless Call & ask Rick.

Thanks, guys for your replies.

I'm thinking about a design that matches the SB tweeter in the Vicino with the 7-inch Revelator woofer in the SSR.
Do you think that will be a good combination?

Thanks.

We can do that but not within your stated budget.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the reply, and for your patience with me.

How much will this be assembled? And will it be a good combination? I'm looking for a large-sounding monitor as an upgrade from my current Ascend CMT-340 which I find thin sounding and a liitle bit too forward for my taste.

Sorry for my late reply. $1,695/pr. and a nice combination.

Hi Rick,

Thanks very much for your reply.
That's a good $700 beyond my budget but I guess more justifiable and attainable than the Grandeur (my original goal). I imagine it will also be better than the Vicino, soundwise?

Yes, a good step up. I'll also note the same tweeter can be found in another floorstander for $22,000/pr.!
