Internet Radio
« on: 3 Nov 2010, 03:27 pm »
I bought a Rotel RT-09 tuner last week so I can finally skip the horrible Dutch radio stations and listen to some quality when it comes to radio.

I know Q107 from when I worked in Toronto, I know the WRIF from detroit from all the time I spent in Winsdor, but I am positive there are lots of other great stations out there.

Do you listen to radio online? What station should I check out? (please don't forget the linkage... :) )

How do you find the quality of the Rotel tuner? Compared to SB3?

I have no experience with the SB3, so unfortunately I cannot compare the two...

The first time I turned the Rotel RT-09 on I was like "WTF"... It sounded like a tin can. Compared to my old Marantz ST6001 it was horrible. But it is finally getting to a decent sound (Rotel OBVIOUSLY does NOT do the 100 hour burn in thing).

I will compare the sound to my Marantz in a few weeks, and if the FM sound from the Rotel is still not at par with the Marantz I'll put it back in my system, keep the Rotel dedicated for Internet radio and the Marantz for FM.

Nope. I listen only to FM/AM radio and that only in the car when I am utterly bored and have no CD at hand.

BTW that remote looks kinda' crappy  :green:

Anonamemouse,

does the Rotel has digital outputs? if yes, did you try to compare the analog output vs. the digital output?
an interesting shootout would be to connect the RT-09 with its digital outs to a BDA-1 and the analog outs to your favourite amp...

SOMA FM! From there, I like their Groove Salad station. As well as Sonic Universe and Suburbs Of Goa. Great ambient beats and grooves.

I listen to KXCI http://www.kxci.org/, they have a lot of new music, specialty late night programs, a terrific Saturday program lineup starting at 6:00 am (2:00 pm your time) and no commercials.

I have not gotten around to put favorites on my Squeezebox Touch in the main system but have programmed the URLs of some of the higher quality ones (i.e. 320bps) on my Pioneer 1120 rec'r in the basement as I did not like the low quality ones.  Here is what I put:
