Has anyone heard these??? List price is around $600, can't find much in review other than brief mention at stereotimes.
Thanks

I hoping for a value price high performance 2 way that might out perform my favorite quad 12L

Hey Batman,

Yes I have heard them.  The Hyperion sound is definately there - open, transparent, detailed, and excellent imaging - but the bass, dynamics, refinement in the treble are not at the level of the 938s.  The treble may get a little "hot" if you use cheap solid state electronics.  But for about $600, I haven't heard any dymamic speakers sound as good - I've heard sub $1000 speakers from Triangle, Castle, Oddyssey Epiphony, Epos, B&W, etc.  Perhaps the only speaker that rivals it is not a dynamic speaker, but the Magnepan SMG, but the Maggies are more rolled off in the highs and has slightly less dynamics in the bass.

Hi,

Just wondering if these speakers use the same mids and highs as those in the 938s and 906s??  The only difference is the qulaity of the crossover??

TIA

Roark,

The drivers are different but based on the same technology. But the 908/938s share the same midrange and tweeters. The price of a pair of 938 midrange units probably cost as much or more than the price of a pair of the 586s.  The crossover components are different too, the 908/938s use better quality components as reflected in the price.

There are good chances that you heard a not totally broken in unit.
The 585 are just a bit on the dark side when broken in, not bright at all.
I agree : the Hyperion sound is there, lot of qualities for at their price point.

I bought a pair of the 586 monitors last June for $600 shortly before the price was increased to $760. They were a real bargain at $600 and still a very good buy at $760 in my opinion. I am using them in my budget office system with a 22 wpc integrated tube amp paired with a AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 cdp w/upsampler board on Skylan stands. In this system, the treble is not at all "hot." Otherwise the sound is as described by Dracule1 and in the Stereo Times review -- just about perfect for my situation where I listen mainly to chamber music and jazz combos.

I wasn't able to make a side-by-side comparison with the quad 11L or 12L monitors (both fine speakers), but my recollection of them is that I preferred the sound of the 586s -- more open and dynamic to my ears.

I believe you can buy the Hyperion monitors directly from the manufacturer by telephone.

thanks. They must have tightened up because I'm told on site to go to a local dealer. Don't have a tel. number
to try.

You will pay 760$ + 150$ of shipping : 910$ x 1.25 for VAT and customs taxes = 1137$ and if you have any problem with speakers bought in the US you will have to send them back, pay the shipping again.
Feel free to pay more  :icon_lol:
