Listen with lights ON or OFF ??
« on: 13 Apr 2020, 09:19 pm »
For me eyes closed and lights off. Mostly to avoid the distraction of light for better focus on sound. Creates a peaceful mood.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Eyes closed and dim lighting. Need a bit of light to see my way around after the listening is done.

Main lights off, and I have a lamp controlled by a dimmer switch like this one for when I need some light

For pure enjoyment or critical listening it’s lights out, glasses off.

But there are night lights in the room so it’s not black out dark.

Much of the time the pool table light is the only light on in the room.  It’s focused on the table but does provide mood lighting doc the room.

Lights off for critical listening as mentioned by others. Glasses are optional, just depends.

Until I get a chance to run dedicated power to the stereo and its never real dark in the house it's almost always lights off, especially when playing vinyl. When playing digital obviously PC has to be on, but with vinyl everything is off with a noticeable improvement in sound. Oh the joys of 80s houses and overly small gauge electrical wires.

Lights off on bright summer days, and on on dark winter nights.

A lamp is always on.  Not brightly lit by any means, but I have no inclination to fall on my ass in the dark or fumble with a light switch anytime I want to change the music.  And I find myself disoriented in the dark, it's unpleasant to me.

When I get the chance to sit and just listen to music, I prefer night time listening with lights off. For myself, it's the best way to get engulfed in the music.

I think everything sounds better with the lights off and eyes closed :)
