So I Googled Crinitus and it appears to be associated with a small bird not the image Lou might be looking for :o

Still a long ways to go but here is one next to a pair of Ulysses.  this is the limited baked maple.  We should have them sanded shaped and oiled next week.  More pics then.
Right now the name is Poseidon, am thinking of Pegasus but may save that for another down the road :D

I can hardly wait for you to bring them over to my house for the audition :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

It will make more sense when they are sculpted, the baffle has baked maple where the angle happens and the mids and tweeters fill the width of the walnut. The bottom section is highly figured walnut from my guitar stash :thumb:
Looking forward to seeing how this comes together.
Sonically there is a lot going on, one aspect being the larger cabinet with smaller ports to give more bass extension and at the same time tighter mid bass.

The wood looks great. I can only wait and twiddle my thumbs.  If some help is needed sanding I will bring my own block and paper.

Do I see sculpting for an angled tweeter there, like on the Agros?

Yes indeed!  wide dispersion tweeters, MTM, and a larger cabinet with new design woofers!

I am very excited about these! :thumb:

here is the first coat of oil.  a cherry and a walnut pair get oil tomorrow!

Is there a angle to the whole cabinet or just the front or are my glasses just dirty

I cleaned the monitor last month  :thumb:

That wouldn't be Lou Reeds cabinet under the piano

Is this to suggest that the tweeters and woofers are new to this design compared to your other models, or am I reading this incorrectly?  If so, any details on the new drivers?

The cabinet is angled same as the Argos:  front is angled inward and up.
They are big speakers but the angle among other things makes them look more... 'sleek'.

Yes that is the S-82 I first built for Lou Reed, it came back in a trade in for a newer cabinet.

The drivers are unchanged except for the woofer which is the 2015 version of our proprietary 8" driver.
This driver will be in all the systems from here on out. We have incorporated a shorting ring into the design, resulting in lowered distortion and smoother bass response, otherwise the driver is unchanged from the previous version.

The idea behind the Poseidon was to meld the best attributes of the Ulysses and the Argos into one system; hence the tweeter arrangement of the Argos and the MTM of the Ulysses. I chose the coupled woofer arrangement like the Argos to place the mids and tweeters at or slightly above ear level and to take advantage of the slightly romantic sound of the two woofers coupled together.

thanks,
lou

For some of us in the cheap seats what is a "shorting ring"

And will the Trim Ring still be used

Just a stunning cabinet none the less.

Trim rings are standard on ALL models from mid 2014 on.

In short a shorting ring is a copper ring in the motor of the driver that helps to stabilize impedance swings thereby lowering distortion.

It is not a huge difference from my previous version of the 8" driver in most applications and it is expensive to modify old speakers to these because of shipping costs and crossover modifications, but for the new systems or if a pair is already in for a v.2 upgrade it is well worthwhile.  PS, the new driver is $200 ea.
