Using the Double Trouble’s as speaker stands?
« on: 26 Oct 2022, 11:35 am »
Good Morning,
I just recently completed the XLS Encore’s, I am also looking to up-grade my subs. The Double Trouble kit should work well, however I would like to set the Encore’s on top of the subs, I plan on using an isolation product to decouple the two speakers. I saw this configuration on NRD when Ron was reviewing them. Is this recommended or can it cause issues or limit performance? The speakers currently sit 55” from the wall opposite my listening position and 36” from the side wall. I did search but did not find the answer.

Thank you, Kelly

I use them for NX Studio stands and put Isolate it Pads underneath the speakers.

So long as you isolate the speaker from the subs you're in great shape.

I have my NX-Studios sitting on a pair of older dual 8" U-Frame subs, and it's been working out great, and the dual 12s will only be even more impressive.
There's nothing that stands out as something to be concerned about.

I had this several years ago.  It was a good combo.  I used Isoacoustics ISO-155 stands for isolation.  Also Isoacoustics Modular stands custom cut for my subs.

These are mine. I have Herbie's fat dots between the monitors and subs

I know this is way off topic but is there any way to get a set of MTM-xoticas any more?
I have a pair of double troubles and want to do exactly what Mike has setup

Interested in those as well as I have the same scenario. How low do the MTM NX-Oticas play? Wondering if I can put them on stands a few feet away from the double troubles during critical listening, or will I have to move them both as a unit. Or said another way, how high will the subs need to go to cross over with the MTMs?

So they should move as a unit then for best sound. Might have to go with the NX-Studios then. Can't quite swing the cost of the NX-Oticas or I would go that route. Thanks!

Don’t fret too much, the NX-Studio actually gets pretty close to the NX-Ottica if you are using the OB subs.

He is right. We have this combination set up in our listening room right now. It is a killer combination.
