Hello to all as I said I'm new here and hope to find good information. I'm a 2-channel guy not interested in home theater. I just want to build the best possible stereo system for the lowest price possible. I love finding good tips for some DIY and what to buy new or used.
I appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks to all who reply.

tubes vs Solid State

I know many people swear using a complete tube system is best.
The sound of a tube preamp with a solid state amp fits my needs.

Welcome! - I'm in central FL on the other coast.  I have a pair of GR Research N3s in one of my back-up systems.  There's a long thread here - https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=99243.0    It will take time to go through (and some of the information may be dated) but it will give you an idea who has particular models of speakers available for audition in specific locales.

Hi,
This is the fifth topic you created in the Starting Block Circle since 2018, I will merge all these topics into one.

Welcome!

You should consider active monitors (built-in amps, one per driver):  deeper bass, better dynamics, what the studio professionals use.  JBL 305 Mk2 ($350/pair, 2-way, desktop sized but can fill an average room) are some of the best/cheapest to get into this club.  For more money active monitors come with built-in DACs, room correction, even a server.
