Has anyone heard the new JBL HDI-1600?

It looks nice and it measures well... https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/jbl-hdi-1600-speaker-review.12477/

I'm not too keen on taking a blind shot in the dark, but unless I find something more compelling (that doesn't require assembly) I might hold my breath and take a chance on these.

$900 each

They do look sweet! Hopefully they sound as good as they look.

Not available in Canada yet.  :(

One thing that stood out is they are designed and engineered in “JBL’s world-famous acoustic engineering facility” in Northridge, California, but made in China. That comes as a bit of a surprise, but geographically it matters not to me.

Love the look and I’m a life long JBL fan. That said, $1800 bucks for Chinese product with a really rough spot at 2khz in the spectral decay? I would need a really sweet deal to buy them without hearing them first.

Sensitivity (2.83V @ 1M): 85dB
Nominal Impedance: 4 Ohm

What's the point of using compression drivers when sensitivity is more like 82dB 1W/1M  :duh:

I think it stands to reason that no matter where something is made, it is better to hear them first. It makes no difference to me if they are built in America or China or anywhere else. Good is good, crap is crap. American crap isn't any more desirable than anyone else's crap.

Amirm said the sound as "in a word is stunning!" " Listening tests confirm one of the most delightful experiences I have had in small speakers."

As soon as I saw that lost any interest.  :shake:

Serious speakers require serious amplification. Wimpy flea watt amps need not apply.  :D

Note that Amir likes his bass heavy and his spls even heavier.

Some other well regarded 2-way monitors also come to mind: Buchardt S400; Elac DBR62; KEF R3; Revel Concerta M16

They do appear to have a pleasance hump (as opposed to presence hump) in the mid bass.  More important to the sound is a gentle downslope in frequency from that mid bass rise throughout the range to the high treble.  Speakers that do this are universally lauded as great sounding, it's the response curve most people want.  Not accurate per se, not for use as a studio monitor tool, but it's what folks want at home.

If I am reading that right, they are +/- 2 db from 60 Hz to 9KHz.
