Just saw an email announcement about this
https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-4-on-sale-now-from-35/

I may upgrade the one I use for home automation/IOT stuff, should be faster.

"Full-throughput Gigabit Ethernet"

Will be nice to have no more USB conflicts. Watch out for the different port formats tho. Thanks for news, anyone want an almost new 3B+ :-P

Benchmarks

Since USB and Ethernet are now separated, as you would expect, both are MUCH faster.

Issue will be heat.  If you put in a case, may want active cooling.
I expect there will be larger cases made, with bigger passive heatsinks.
Since a lot of these will be sold, I'm sure there will be some cooling options after a bit.

It seems to take awhile for it to heat up. I wonder how many audio distros and HATs will work as is.

Another article/review

Seems like buster from Raspberry for OS.  Until this morning I didn't even know that Buster was replacing Stretch

I would expect it may take a little while before audio is working correctly.

Oh right, looks like Buster is the standard download for all platforms now - https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

Well I guess the 4 addresses longstanding criticisms of the Pi... !

I don't see any advantage for audio? I guess if you use a USB 3.0 DAC that could be a minor upgrade.

They finally separated USB from Ethernet.  Advantage here will mostly be in data throughput through each since they no longer have to share the same data pipeline, but this could improve usb audio out from the pi.  I never used usb audio from a pi, only used I2S audio.

But otherwise, advantages are for video and speed, not for audio.

Thanks, you're right, that will be better. I found the sound much improved when powering the DAC externally instead of via the RPI 3 B+ USB bus.
