Hello! So I just got my hands on a technics SL-23 turntable and I'm trying to find the most convenient setup possible. I have a pair of Yamaha HS5s that I have had for making music and I'd like to use them for my turntable to cut down space in my room instead of having two sets of speakers. My dad had an old Sony TA-Av531 receiver which seemed perfect at first because of the phono input and the built in EQ. The only downside is that there is no pre-outs. There is a tape out but I'm not sure if using this will affect the volume control or eq or even damage my speakers

You can use the tape out, but then you have to control the speaker volume with the control on the back of the HS5s.
A speaker level to line level converter will let you use the speaker outputs on the receiver and control volume with the Sony.

Thank you both for the tips. I haven't had time yet to even test the setup with regular speakers. I need to replace a fuse in the receiver. But now i know what direction go!

Tape output will work, but as mentioned you'll have to adjust volume individually on the back of the speakers.
The RussSound adaptor appears will also work (to allow you to use your receiver's volume control).
But note that the speakers are designed for a balanced input (XLR or TRS) versus single ended (RCA). So with either of the above options you'll need RCA (single ended) to TRS or XLR (balanced) cable adapters (not expensive to try). Hopefully going from single ended to balanced won't produce grounding feedback problems for you. I'd try the single ended to balanced adapters first and if that works you can also try the RussSound adaptor.

Thank you sir. I actually have some RCA to TRS cables for a sampler that I have. Unfortunately, the fuse wasn't the issue on the amplifier. It's gonna be a bit before I'll get to test this out.
