Title: Powered speaker vendor from audio shows
Post by: mix4fix on 18 Mar 2022, 08:01 am
Who was that audio show vendor that had the powered mini speakers? One was the master while the other was the slave unit. It had built in DAC and all that.

Heard the Vanatoo Transparent One (not the current Encore) years ago at a show and liked the sound.

I'm careful to differentiate between "active" and "powered".  Powered in my book are simply passive loudspeakers with a single channel of amplification built into one or both cabinets and use a relatively simple high voltage crossover.  Active use a more sophisticated low voltage (often digital) crossover that feeds one channel of amplification per driver (a vastly superior approach).  Note that nearly all professional monitors are active.  As I understand it the Vanatoo Transparent One was powered and the current Vanatoo Transparent One Encore is active.
