WTB , OPPO 105 Modded for sonics or equivalent

:D hello all ,, looking for a cdp with great sonics. Modwright is a great way to go I bet. They did the 105 in a great mod I would bet.  I think going this way is better than buying a new shitty cheap player now ? If anyone has a great player they aren't using ,, I'll take it. Just bought a 203 but I think the sonics won't be up to snuff.  I'll plug it in and warm it up for the test asap.  Thanks for any help.  :D

Consider buying a Bryston BDA-3 DAC instead and using the Oppo 203 as a transport, my 103 works great as a transport.

There are a few advantages to the BDA-3:
  • 100% Canadian
  • Natively supports DSD256; PCM support up to 384 kHz / 32 bit - a lot of studios are now recording in hi-res, this is NOT upsampled music but native PCM and DSD. You will be ahead of the curve.
  • Accepts SACD input via HDMI. The Oppo has HDMI out. Hear SACD (DSD64) in all it's glory. Jeff Beck's 'Blow by Blow' on SACD actually sounds good.

:D thanks much.  I will look into a used BCD3 I think. Looks like a fine machine. They make kick ass gear.  :D.  I see TMR has a BCD1 ,,,, way cheaper.

I see TMR has a BCD1 ,,,, way cheaper.

  • 14 year old CD transport
  • CDs only
  • No remote ($350 to replace?)
  • No SACD
  • You already have a CD player/transport (Oppo 203)
  • Probably sound better than the Oppo's for less money but not as good as the Bryston stand alone BDA DACs (see Stereophile reviews)
  • One box solution

:D looking into the Bryston cd3 ,  what kills me is the US buck. Holy shit 1.35% add.  Good lord , 3500 goes to 5000 in a blink of your peepers. I've had Bryston before. Good gear.  :D  then,, the question is ,is 5000 to much for a cdp now ?  A transport for 2000 and a 3000 dollar dac better ?  If you can up the budget for the dac to 4000 used or so ,, is this the better ?  So much gear ,, not enough time.  :D
