I'm no graphics designer type guy, but here's my best attempt at a mockup from your burled walnut sample, Gordy... I didn't do the baffles because I couldn't find a decent finished walnut sample.  I have a feeling this mockup came out a bit darker than the speakers will actually look, but we shall see! :)

:thumb:   Thank you Papajin!  The baffles will be of partially figured or lightly figured stock.  What was that I mentioned to you about not dwelling on the future?  Forgetaboutit :rotflmao:

Nice cloning stamp job! I found some walnut burl on eBay but even after editing the colors it would not match up. Real woods can vary in color quite a bit.

These will be some very nice speakers.

Baffles will be really hard to overlay decently anyway, since the rounded edges tend to look different when the light reflects off them.  I bet you could spend hours upon hours just trying to make it look decent.

Sure you could spend hours...Or you can use the magic wand to select the baffles and then change the color settings on the selected area.

Takes 1 minute tops  :D

What finish did you get, standerd gloss or hand buffed piano laquer?

I do use the wand, but I usually have trouble getting it to grab exactly what I want.  I'm a relative n00b when it comes to graphics editting though, so I'm sure I did that mockup completely differently than a pro would likely tackle it.    The hard part isn't highlighting the area you wanna work with though.  The hard part is getting the new texture to actually look like a baffle when you're done.  Overlaying it with something new is simple... Having it maintain the curved edge, and not lose the light reflections... now therein lies the challenge!

I am new to photo editing myself. That is why I look for easy ways around some of the things you mentioned.

Adjusting the settings on the wand helps and you can start out with a weight of 10 and work your way up to say 40 once you have an outline defined. If you mess up use history to back track.

When cloning make sure the source and destination image are about the same size and choose the correct brush.

Curves, color balance and brightness, contrast help to transform items like the baffles above so that you do not loose the rounded edges.

Again I am not expert...I just wing it and have a good time :D

I went with the standard gloss as they were ordered before your mod thread, but even so, my book cases, cd cabinets etc. are all more of a satin finish so I would still have been more prone to the standard finish, being leary of a piano finish as too glossy for my tastes/room!  Me being the conservative that I am

Gordy,

Will your ribbons and or woofers be black?

When I first spoke to Jim I intended to order the most stripped down version I could possible order due to cost concerns.  That quickly went out the window when he suggested using some Walnut veneer he had.  That, too, went out the window once he showed me the Burled Walnut (my most favorit-est wood ever!) that he had scored.  So much for my economizing...

For the last 4 months or so I've been swapping caps around in two amp's power supplies and their associated input caps.  Lately, thanks to Team JOL and their Felicia experiments, I've been doing the same with my Felicia's.  All that I learned/heard there led me to the conclusion that I'd never be able to stop second guessing myself unless I had Jim upgrade the HT-3 caps as well.

That's it for my upgrades and options.  I really wasn't even aware that the drivers had a color option...

The ribbon tweeter is always an option since it comes in silver or black. Standard is black as far as I know.

The woofers are standard in silver but mine will be black. I prefer the black on the Ebony cabinets. The woofer color is not an option it just worked out that way for me.

I'm going standard finish for the exact same reason.  That high gloss lacquer finish screams fine furniture, and I'm not really intending to place the speakers in THAT fancy of a surrounding. :)

I thought about the different color drivers once I knew there WERE options, but I liked the standard colors in my case, so didn't change anything there.  Gordy and I are basically getting the same HT3's, just different veneers.

I'm going with HT3's, HT1's (sealed), and an HTC.  All speakers with curly bubinga veneer and bubinga pomelle baffles.  HT3's will have plinths also of course and the sonicaps upgrade.  Feel free to talk me into other upgrades if you can. :)
