The wave guides work regardless of the tweeter in the speaker.

So, if I waveguide my RM40s, should I also waveguide my RM30C (center channel)?  Any thoughts as to toe in for waveguided speakers?  More or less than what's recommended now?

Because of the 180 degree dispersion pattern of CD speakers, with sharp "skirts", toe-in is more critical for proper imaging, but you have better control over first reflection points because of it.

I use some toe-in, but less than before, in my system and LEDE room with the wave guides on.

As John Casler reported, we have begun using the Blackhole 5 in most cabinets and it has improved performance top to bottom.  This is the best $22 per sheet (plus shipping) you'll ever spend..

Two questions: Will the new PRs be of the vitrified sort? And how soon can orders be made?  Thanks.

All passive radiators are vitrified nowadays.

Give us a short time and we'll announce availability of the CD upgrades.

Can Blackhole 5 sheets be ordered from VMPS together with other upgrades such as the CD?

Yes.   Two sheets are enough for most cabinets, allow 3-4 sheets for the RM 40.

Hi Roger,

Current pricing for the SR-71 upgrade, and Black Hole 5 sheets, is listed on the VMPS Price List Sticky

Apologies if wrong...It may be incomplete to state the purpose of the new passive radiators (with the CDWG) is to match the lower overall output resulting from the CDWG slot.  The lower overall mid & treble output can be corrected by simply turning the level controls up about 1.5dB.

There is a secondary effect of the slot.  At 20 kHz, the CDWG increases the dispersion to 180-degrees, & a 6 dB/octave low-pass filter effect is introduced with a 10 kHz pole.

A classic treble control (remember those?) boosts or cuts 6 dB/octave at 10 kHz.  Turning up such a control will correct the CDWG treble rolloff.  Important note: Digital treble controls in modern components are bypassed in "direct" & pure analog modes (phono, SACD, DVD-A, etc.).

Barring a treble control, a less accurate but practical solution is to increase the speaker's bass Q.  This will make the the bass curve above the cutoff peak look like it was high-pass filtered, thus balancing & complementing the CDWG low-pass filter effect in the treble.

Probably the PR Q is increased via stiffer spider &/or surround, providing quicker response & less overhang than simply adding more mass.

Many have called or posted to get the pricing on the the SR-71 upgrade option for various cabinets.

Also sheets of BH5 are available and a chart listing the "sheets per cabinet" is shown too.

At this point it is as follows:

SR-71 cabinet insulation package:

RM/x = $550
RM40 = $480
RM30 = $240
RM2 = $250
626R = $150
All Subs = $98
LRC = $88

Black Hole 5 = $22 a sheet (18"x12")

Suggested sheets for the following speakers (sheets per cabinet)

RM 40 (4)
RM 30 (2)
RM 2 (2)
626 (1/2)
Subwoofer (any) 2
RM1a (2)
LRC (1)

Are there instructions for how to apply the BH w/o sending the speakers in?

BlackHole 5 has a "self adhesive" that allows you to "cut and paste" it into the cabinet.

Maybe Brian can offer the most strategic placement.
