Hi Everyone,
we want to do some testing. What is the easiest way to playback DSD via USB these days? We are reaching out to the experts. Meaning you guys.
Is there a click and play method out there yet?

OOOOOh! I just read this. It does not bode well.

Not sure normal people will bother just yet.

Hi Haider, it's pretty simple really, just a few configuration settings. They only have to be done once.
-
Thank you John,
What would you recommend as the best was to start? Are the players on the link the best options?
It is important that we use something that would not be too intimidating to the end user. I know some are willing to tackle foobar, but in terms of breaking outside of the enthusiast circle this may be a barrier.

JRiver MC works great. The setup for DSD is only a couple of clicks. Set and forget.

I use JRiver MC with a Schiit Audio Loki DAC and I love it. Really, really love it. Configuration is pretty simple and JRiver up-samples to DSD so I can use the Loki to play all my digital files regardless of format keeping everything as simple as possible.

Thank you guys. That is very helpful. A little more confident now diving in.
Will report back. Also if anyone has any other way of doing this we would certainly be interested. Always learning here.

Also has anyone tried DSD via a network yet?
I imagine this is the long term future of playback. Network, online or otherwise I mean. Formats will forever be nomadic.

Yes, it works fine, even on wireless, as long as your network works okay.

Good to know. What exactly is your set up? Would certainly help to know and understand how it's done.
Thanks

I developed two 20 minute screencast videos on setting up JRiver for audiophiles. It includes tips and techniques, mass tagging, DSD setup, etc. Feel free to download.

Like the videos Ted. Can you make one on how to combine libraries for those of us stupid enough to have set up mutliple libraries?!

Thank you very much for this. Useful for all it seems.

I run my Chord dac easily and play all files natively. I can tell the fidelity by the colored lights. Would I be better served by having everything upsampled to DSD? I think there are two sets of clicks to make that happen.

You just have to try it and see. Some like it better, others don't.

Thanks for all of this. Do we think that DSD has hope of hitting the mainstream? (pardon the pseudo pun) What would be needed for it to do so?
Also did I miss it or was there an explanation of how to best stream DSD via network?

Hi Haider, I suppose it depends on what you consider "mainstream". Reports comparing PCM with DSD do seem to consistently favor the latter. I was actually a bit surprised in a short check that I could hear any difference at all, but there you go! However, what proportion of the population care? We're all nutter audiophiles here....
