VRX-1 balanced pair cable
« on: 22 Mar 2009, 12:18 am »
Just curious how the balanced cable for the VDA-2 works. My understanding of balanced audio is that the signal is split about a midpoint and then set as pos and neg down two lines and then summed which cancels out any noise on the line. How can you do this with just a cable?

Looking at my VDA-2 and the VRX-1:

The VDA-2 has two sets of RCA outputs that are 180 degrees out of phase with each other.  The VRX-1 cable takes the output of both these RCA pairs and combines them into a balanced output that terminates with pair XLRs.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I totally forgot about the phase switch (I never touch it).  :duh:

All balanced circuits work by providing two signals in opposite phase to each other. One signal is cancelled out at the "receiving" end and any noise that was picked up on the way gets cancelled also. CIA provides these signals via their two sets of RCA outputs.
