I'm wondering if anyone here has these. Back in the 70's I had a pair of ESS Lab Series 3 that I really liked. The clarity of the tweeter was great.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

Welcome!  Salk has done some speakers in the past - e.g.  https://www.salksound.com/gallery.php?model=Custom&veneer=Any&figuring=Any&dye=Any&tone=Any&color=Any&is_custom=Any  - check out the custom models (near the upper left there's a drop down menu

Heil's patent has run out, so a number of driver companies make Air Motion Transformers now. The ones made by Beyma in Spain are well regarded, and Spatial Audio Labs make a line of speakers, the X-series, using them in an open baffle design. Spatial Audio Labs has a forum here, and there are binaural recordings of the Spatial X5 speakers here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUVfZeUEz_w .

If you are interested specifically in the ones made by Heil, there are some interesting comments in the series of interviews that Steve Gutenberg (Audiophiliac on Youtube) has done with Nelson Pass. He and his wife worked at ESS, if I recall correctly. https://www.youtube.com/c/SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac/search?query=nelson%20pass
