Not really listening to Archie Bell and the Drells but the Raconteurs:

Once again, my apologies to the Goth thread.  :)

Variety is certainly the spice of life  :thumb:

What I have enjoyed about this thread is the opportunity for me to discover "new to me" music that lives outside of my favourite music genre. Broadening one's music appreciation and horizons can be a most pleasant endeavour.  :D

Be well....

It's very interesting to see the range of music presented on this thread. Like many of you, my tastes are eclectic, and it's always an educational experience to learn of new artists.

24/96 HDTracks download: absolutely sublime through the BDP-2, BDA-2, and SP3.

I did some research on Dave Douglas which says six of the songs are hymns and folks songs which his deceased mother asked him to perform at her funeral. I'll check it out.

Funk, rock, R&B, country, blues, and gospel which in the food world would be descibed as the perfect stew. A modern day Sly and the Family Stone coupled with a 60's Farfisa organ sound.

JeffMO, there are a couple of videos and samples on the Dave Douglas website below, but their FLAC download is the 44.1 CD master; HDTracks has the 96/24; Amazon also has samples.

The arrangements are lean and precise, reminiscent of Jan Garbarek and some other Nordic jazz players, very emotional and haunting. Ensemble is trumpet, tenor sax, piano, bass, drums, with Aoife (pronounced eefah) O’Donovan on vocals. You may have seen the NYT article on the album, and a quick Google search elicited several strong reviews. Here are a couple of interest:

The Stereophile review focuses on the sound rather than the music: http://www.stereophile.com/content/dave-douglas-ibe-stilli

Happy listening to all genres of music, gents,

Rich

Thanks Prelude, this reminded me I hadn't played this fellow in awhile.  Good project for tomorrow.
