Macmini for music server?
« on: 20 Mar 2015, 05:45 pm »
Hi,
I'm new to the computer audio. Currently, I have Wire4sound DAC-2 and i'm transitioning to computer audio. I have a few questions and i hope to get feedback from your expertise:

 1. Do you prefer Macmini or Intel NUC?
 2. Is it an advantage to install Windows 7 on Macmini? I have tried Jriver on my laptop and i like it.
 3. What type of USB cable do you suggest (I'd prefer short cable and less than $100)?

Thanks

JohnR

I have no experience with Intel NUCs, but if you want to run JRiver on a mac mini, why not just use the Mac version (of JRiver)?

Checkout Mojo Audio for the MacMini. I use a modified Mojo Audio MacMini with an SSD HD. I use JRiver for downloaded music and I use Tidal with Amarra SQ software for streaming. All played through a PS Audio Direct Stream DAC. My USB cable is from UltraFi and has separate runs for power & signal from the MacMini. It cost around $500.00.

Good luck with your search,
