« on: 7 Aug 2022, 01:56 pm »
I am looking at a used BIT RM5 to plug  the following into:
1) Bryston 4B (driving Bryston A3s)
2) Bryston 11B
3) Bryston BDA-2
4) Cambridge 851C DAC/CD
5) SVS SB-2000 sub
6) Magnum Dynalab FT101

can the RM5 be used for this set of gear ?

The RM 5 is only capable of 5 amps so only recommended for source gear.

You are OK except for the AMP

thank you James.  I'm taking a pass on the offered unit.  I'll hold out for a BIT15 or a Torus TOT Max.

Then you have the 4B and SVS sub(500w)with 1500w peaks to deal with.
I remember when I had 5x7B-ssts,two DD-15s plus components.
I tried out a 15a Torus/BIT,sounded the same as all the shunyata conditioners I had.
Then I tried a 20aTorus/BIT with the 15a with all that gear and it was a WTF moment for sure.
Major audio upgrade.
personally I'd go with a minimum 15a BIT or even better a 20a BIT just to let the amp and sub open up.
Do a home audition(ITS FREE) and you'll hear what I mean.
I upgraded the two Torus to the 240v 20a and 60a and also the two 7s to 28's.
sold the DDs awhile ago and this year picked up 2 SVS sb-16s.
Have had the Torus(s) for years and thats the only components I will never sell.

thank you for chiming in drummermitchell.  My goal is to squeeze every last drop of
performance out of what I have (vintage 4B, 11B), including recently purchasing some gik room treatment
components.  I have to wonder if the drumming I have done and other damage I
have imposed over the years to my hearing will prevent me from appreciating any improvement, and there
are budget constraints.  My remaining upgrades (used) include
- power isolation either Bryston or Torus
- a BDA-3 (in silver face plate)

Well I’m just north of Route 66(age) and have been through the gauntlet of gigs and concerts over the years, not sure of damage.
I figure I’ll enjoy till I drop.
Actually bought the BP-17 cubed awhile and she sounds great so perhaps my ears have been spared somewhat.LOL.
As I’m into movies also I bought a Anthem avm70 which replaced my faithful Arcam av8 processor.
Never to old to enjoy the music and YES I still hear the difference.
Canuck Audio Mart might have some BITs for sale on there or even Audiogon.
I did buy a 20a Torus off there years ago,was pricey for shipping but worth it to me.

an update ... I sourced a Torus TOT Max and a BDA-3,
completely tore my system down, rearranged, plugged the following into the Torus
1) Bryston 4B (driving Bryston A3s through 6' Bryston speaker cables)
2) Bryston 11B
3) Bryston BDA-3
4) Bryston BDP-2
5) Cambridge 851C (DAC/)CD
6) SVS SB-2000 sub
7) Magnum Dynalab FT101
8) Panasonic Plasma TV

OMG!!!! The low level buzz I was hearing over the A3s when no signal was being run is gone.
When my 4B was repaired last year I inquired about that buzz and it was suggested
that the block transformers could be the source.  It is highly satisfying to know that
my old 4B is driving so cleanly.  The BDA-3 is a whole other revelation in sound  :icon_surprised:
The acoustic room treatment is coming next week from GIK: a banner year for massive
improvements in my system.
