That's spectacular. There's a astro/meteorological name thing for that.

Didn't know it had a special name, but it is a halo. If I'm not mistaken, it's atmospheric ice. Ice crystals are what make Saturn's rings so spectacular. I've seen it before, but I decided to capture it last night.

I found the Wiki on it. I was wrong about it having a fancy name, it's a plain old "halo", just like you said.
You were also correct about it being ice:

Oh well. Some days I appear more intelligent than others.  Today, not so much.  :dunno:

Bob,

I'm guessing those days that you do appear more intelligent coincide with your wife being absent?

Here's a handful of images from my new Sony RX100MK2, compact camera. I've been enjoying carrying it in my pocket.

Hiya Din,

I just looked up your Sony. Nice Camera  :thumb:

I've been looking for a new, high quality, pocketable P&S. My full sized Canon is just too much to drag around the countryside at times and the Sony might just fit the bill. I may have to find one in stock here in town and play with it.

Oh, once it warms up a bit, listen for a rumble coming from the North. That will be Mark and I (and maybe Laura) coming down to sample the cuisine from your cafe  :D ...than and take in some Snell goodness

Went hiking this weekend to a place called Providence Canyon - believe it or not these canyons were made by negligent farming practices.

That's a pretty stunning image. Is that in Georgia?

Hi gnuyork and all Audio Circle members.
Negligent farming practices you wrote
and I say and add:
Negligent farming practices spread over several centuries.
That beauty was not made overnight. :(

Yes, this is in Georgia, and Guy13, according to the the info, Providence Canyon is 150 years old -  a baby compared the Grand Canyon.

Here's a couple of fun portraits. During an early spring Open House & Gala Event at our Café and Market today, a patron walked up with this 17 year old, Umbrella Cockatoo named "Mamacita."

Heeding Din's advice, I decided to upgrade my pocketable P&S to the  Sony RX100MK2. Extremely nice little camera and it's built like a tank. I'm still wrapping my head around all the presets and features...and this thing is loaded with them.

So the little woman and I were out this morning doing some running. She was hitting a bunch of shoe stores (imagine that) and I decided to stay in the truck and started playing with the little Sony. It's a pretty dreary day here in St Louis so I turned my focus on the interior of my 65 Ford F100 hot rod. Not that the interior is the most interesting shoot, I just wanted to start to get familiar with the Sony.

Here are a few shots playing with the aperture settings
