Off Ramp 4 to Ayon Stratos
« on: 22 Aug 2020, 05:07 am »
Dear brainstrust,

I am Darren, an Off Ramp 4 owner from Eastern Australia, hope everyone is well.

I am lucky enough to own an Ayon Stratos dac and an Off Ramp 4 with the Hynes Regulator fitted. I had a 'swizzle' I2s cable made by Revelation Audio and it sounds great.

My question is, the dac will accept DOP and I2s (seperate inputs), what is the optimum connection between the Off Ramp and the dac? I believe the Off Ramp 4 has PCM output?

The optimum connection depends on the DAC.  Usually I2S is better because it bypasses reclocking in the DAC.  S/PDIF coax can also be excellent, but not if there is reclocking in the DAC.

Off-Ramp should pass DOP because it's essentially PCM.  The DAC must be capable of DOP.
