A few years back when the Wedgie was introduced there was discussion about a U Frame OB with side mounted bass drivers to use as a stand:

Did anyone actually build this?

It would fit perfectly for something I am looking at, but I'm struggling to see how it works.

Given the position of the drivers, it seems like there is minimal separation and hence you'd need a lot of EQ.

Any thoughts from builds?

I built some of these stands using our 8" servo subs: https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=129161.0

They sounded great and didn't load the room too much either.

But the open backed designed using just two 8's had limited output. They were only good for small rooms.

If their output was limited to only 30hz and above, would that enable more output? 

I'm thinking of the Super Mini - the 8inch subs going to 30hz with lots of output and a stand that matches the style of the main drivers would be pretty sweet.

I built a pair of those stands to mate with X-CS Encores. This was a combination music/home theater system so the stands were crossed to a sealed servo sub at 30Hz and worked fine.

These may also be a solution for you although, you'd   still want a  sub for the bottom couple  octaves

Thee are being cut  and  will be  sending  a pair to Danny soon.  They  match the Super Mini perfectly and are fully braced  similar to the  NX-Otica's

Thanks for the link to the full build and the honesty about the results.

Given the end result seems to be a slotted port with more output to the rear, wouldn’t a sealed stand with one driver have the same effect?

Or even an H frame with the same dimensions?


The V baffle wouldn’t work aesthetically with any satellites other than Wedgies or similar.
