I've had a couple of claims with UPS.  My experience has been that they deny every claim to weed out the weak.  If you fight them they'll give in.  Good luck and sorry about your loss.

Don't these usually ship from Salk in wood?  What did the guy do with the crates?  Guess thats neither here nor there...good luck with your claim.

Wouldn't surprise me.

That said:

1: An authorized UPS shipping center packaged them.
2: I have pictures of the damage while they are still on the truck.
3: They scanned them as damaged and I never touched them.

I don't think they can get out of this one.

No, not when a UPS franchised store does the packing.

The shipper shipped them through a local packing place that did all the packaging.

This will be what saves you. Being packed by a shipping company, they are 100% responsible for the package(s). They should know better.

From the photos...that company has no business packing and shipping anything. So many square pegs in round holes in these times...   :o

Just terrible!!!

Ya know, there is another popular seller/back and forth shipper here on AC that seems to use UPS also... And I thought everyone already knew their track record. All of us in this hobby - rather it be retail, sellers, mod-ers or traders should NEVER use UPS! This has been going on far to long for anyone serious about the hobby to use them at all anymore.

So all you company owners out there, drop your accounts with UPS!

I am very sorry, grant.  No one should have to go through this.  There have been so many posts like this lately - very disturbing.

I hope this gets resolved quickly and Jim's custom pair for you is everything you wanted and more.

I had my HT3's from Jim packed and delivered to me in the Middle East.
They survived 2 months of Road, Sea, Unloading and Loading and arrived here with a small damage to the Box.
The speakers were double packed with 2 really thick and strong boxes.
I wouldn't ever transport speakers of that weight and caliber in a thin shitty box as those.
Painful for sure.

I just placed an order with Jim for three ST's (L/R/C) and two Song Surround 1's - these shipping threads are scaring me.  What shipping company would you guys recommend I go with once the speakers are ready?

That mess is in no way reflective of Salk's packing and shipping.  Just follow Jim's guidance as he definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to packing and shipping worldwide.

Jim packing was excellent, I will not question Jim's packaging at all.
That packing is definitely not Salk's....
Not sure why people do not keep such important packaging material

I had my ST's LCR delivered in immaculate condition. Jim's packaging is excellent and you need not worry about it at all.  The only drawback is you need little patience when opening this packaging as it takes a little while.
I recently had to send back my Song Surrounds and I reused that same packaging that Jim sent and it was received perfectly. I've kept all the packaging material for future use.
From the pics it looks like it was not packaged by Jim otherwise this would likely not happen. I really feel sorry and I hope everything works out with the claim.

I have to agree about the packing job - what do those speakers weigh - 50, 75, 100lbs?

No way peanuts are going to protect them over distance, in an box that thin.

That all said, hopefully UPS will compensate you, and you will soon be listening and happy.

Yup, I used to run a shipping department and peanuts are only good for small light items.  Those speakers should have been carefully packed with rigid (blue board) foam sheets keeping the speakers rigid, and even 1/4" plywood all around to absorb sharp punctures.

Heavy items in peanuts can shift in the box and become more vulnerable.  Nevertheless with all those warning signs on the boxes there is NO excuse for that kind of damage.

I also hate it when careless shippers drop complicated devices into peanuts, and don't wrap the item in plastic.  Damn peanuts get in every crevice.  That's just lazy.

By the way, while I prefer FedEx Ground (more convenient, and the woman at the counter is kinda hot), I have shipped and received all KINDS of delicate and expensive stuff via UPS for 40 years, and NEVER had a problem unless it was due to poor packing.

Their so-called packing specialists are another story................ :duh: :nono:

That is the worst package I have ever seen.  Now I know why it took 45 minutes to get into one packed by Jim and crew, wow.

Hi,

My Salk Sound ht2's were shipped 14 000 kilometres which included land and sea.  They arrived perfectly with no damage in double boxed cardboard boxes.

I wouldn't worry too much about shipping your songtowers.
