X-MTM Encore with low-power amps
« on: 2 Feb 2021, 05:21 pm »
Hi all...I'm (still) toying with the idea of building a pair of X-MTM Encores...but I want to make sure they are capable of sounding their best even with low-power amps such as my Fisher 500c (P/P tube receiver, 30 w/ch) or the Pass DIY Aleph J (Class A, 25 w/ch) I'm planning.

I know that, given the specs of the X-MTMs, I should have no problem playing them plenty loud with these amps, especially since I usually listen at low to medium volumes, but specs don't always tell the whole story.

There are plenty of speakers out there that are able to play plenty loud with a low wattage amp, yet don't really come alive and sound their best without a good 50+ w/ch. If that's the case with X-MTMs, I'd like to reconsider my plans.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

30 watts is plenty for them.  You will have no trouble filling the room with sound.  It also depends on your room.  The bigger the room the more power you will need.

What corndog said.

And that model will sound good at low volume levels too.
