Do you think this is a good set up? How do you think it's performance on classical music, especially symphony? Thanks James.

You need a quality power conditioner like the Torus. It really does make a difference. It's the final tweak to obtaining optimal sound by eliminating any speaker lag time.

Then you need to get some hard rock so that you have a better appreciation of the power your setup can deliver.:smoke:

Hi,

The 3.7's are a very resolving speaker and because of their very wide an even polar response they can sound a little strident on some material.  So speaker placement and music material is more critical with the Thiel's I find that many other speakers.

Hi,

A lot will depend on room size and levels required. My Thiel room at home is 23x16 and I am using 7B's and 28B's off and on with excellent results.  I also sometimes use the Thiel subs to augment the sound at vey low frequencies depending on the material I am listening to.

In Vegas where we do the audio shows each year the 3.7's are in a very large room and we typically use 28B's in that setup.

actuary616: I would have spent far less on cables.

I think 3.7 is very sensitive to cables.

Then I would question the crossover design.

There is only one speaker cable that is quite different than the average zip cord:

and this due to its particular geometry and not some voodoo "cryogenically oriented monocrystals".

Yes, and they sound pretty damn good in that room! :D

I don't want to burst your bubble, but after reading the web link, I can tell you their theory is nonsense with regard to audio.

Read carefully. I wrote "different" not "better".

Jim Thiel was one of the more particular and proficient speaker designers of recent past, and focused great energy and time on his cross-over designs. It would be sacrilegious to suggest a different cross over for any of his speakers!

I wholeheartedly agree with you!  I was saying IF a speaker is "very sensitive" to which speaker cables are used, then perhaps look at the crossover.

However, I doubt the speaker would have a problem with the majority of speaker cables, as long as they don't have too much L, C or R.
