We are now officially using the new HSR82T HDMI board in new SP3 production, and have been carefully rolling out upgrades to existing units.  In most cases, the only SP3's that would benefit from upgrading to the HSR82T would be units using older 8 input modules, which makes it a relatively straightforward upgrade.

The upgrade cost would vary from $1000.00 for HDMI only, up to $3800.00 for a full rebuild to current specification.

Thanks,

Mike

Does this mean the SP3 can pass on eARC or Dolby Vision?

Adam was very responsive.  Dolby Vision and HDR yes but no ARC or e- ARC.   Bryston can still do the hdmi updates ......if they can get parts / hdmi boards 😞

Thanks for the information. Too bad about eARC as there is a work around for the 4k issue by buying players with two HDMI outputs and run one to the SP3 and the other to the television. I purchased a Sony 65A9G for that purpose.

Hi, updating this thread. James et al, are you now able to get HSR82T HDMI boards (or newer replacement version) from MDS? What is the turnaround time to do an update? Is it still $1000? I have a 2013 SP3 with the original 8 input HDMI board.

Thanks,  Al

Hi Al,

We can no longer get the boards so I assume will will not be able to offer the upgrades going forward.

Sorry to hear that James. What do you think your options are going forward in the multi-channel processor segment?

I think we will look at some kind of partnership where we do the hardware and they do software.

With Bryston no longer being able to get the most recent HDMI boards has the SP3 been discontinued?

Hi Rod

We can not get the boards any longer so we are stopping production on the SP-3.
We have not been able to build SP-3's for about a year now.

Hello James,

How long will it be possible to repair a SP3 in case of a failure?

Hi

Not sure as it would really depend on what went wrong.

This is sad as I thought that the SP3 would be made in perpetuity.  :(

Ill take a dip in muddy waters, ain’t talkin blues.
I’ve always had separate preamp whether the 26 ,Vac pre ect.
I’ll even go far back as the arcam av8 processor strictly for movies which I switched out for the Anthem 70.
I needed the latest  for me was the Anthem AVM 70 for movies ect.
With the Bryston sp-3 we have 5.1 Neanderthal to me with the 26 pre installed which I liked a lot yrs ago before the vac preamp mk II A.
So now it seems a boat anchor especially is something goes wrong, and even if you can can replace some parts the Whole unit has to be sent back.
Dedicated preamp or preprocessor works for me as if one drops out I can borrow one from dealer or buy a separate unit .
No down time.
5.1 reminds me almost of MONO now a days WTF.
No parts,out dated old news,
Jus sayin cuz I can.
I’ll add I use a Bryston BP-17 cubed for preamp.

As a SP3 owner (with one of the first motherboards) I would like to see a successor model and James Tanner hinted in that direction a while ago.

5.1 is perfectly fine for me. That is one of the reasons I went for the SP3.

3.0 SP3 sound quality works very well for me right now. Might go to 5.0 or 5.1 some day. I am hoping Bryston will continue to support SP3 owners for awhile.
