What is the maximum height of a mantle from the floor for comfortable viewing of a Plasma/LCD from a seating position 12 feet back? An over the mantle setup would definately accomodate HT speakers.
The alternate is to mount a little lower to the left of the fireplace with an angle/tilt creating a diamond (corner to adjacent corner) viewing area. That is the current set-up with an old CRT unit with left and center on one side of the fireplace and the other speaker to the right of the fireplace.
What I would like to do is build custom "stand height" cabinets either side of the fireplace for audio equiptment and rebuild the mantle. Currently had an ugly hood that takes 16" so have sufficient space to play with to design an area for the center channel built in. Just need to know the maximum "comfortable viewing" height - using mantle height as the guage.
