HD-AVP and MCH-K38 combo
« on: 27 Aug 2015, 09:29 am »
...shipping late August!
I hope to see some more detailed information on their homepage soon.

Did anybody had the chance to get a sneak preview? Except the already known articles and photos, there is not much information available right now. Anyhow, this the thing I have been waiting for a long time. I am ready to order  8)

I would like to start this thread as an information and first hand experience exchange. Who is going to buy as well?

Sorry, it is now end of September.  And I think this is firm now.
Seriously from the prototype demo at Munich in May, it took another 4 months to make the following change:
MCH-K38 - decided to improve the amp so this will be our high-end audiophile quality multi-channel and we also drop the price to $2995.  We are talking about 4 x 400W or 8 x 200W high-end bridgeable amps in a box.
Fixing some sticky mechanical buttons also took two months.
HD-AVA/AVP - also a series of firmware updates and mechanical fix and finishes that delayed the project.

I think it is better to get it right before the release.

OK, thanks for the information! The delay is no problem, I prefer quality over speed (time to market). I appreciate the decision you took on the MCH-K38. Wow, can't wait to see the product in real life. Will there be some more detailed information available on the web soon? How about some sneak preview?

is 400W on 8ohm?

Initial Specs show 200wpc @ 8ohms, 400wpc @ 4ohms and channels can be bridged to double output.

I have not seen the final form, so these may adjust.

Hi Alex,

I was just ready to announce the "PRE-ORDER" for these units.  In fact, I placed the first MCH K-38 Pre-order just yesterday.

I will post a PRE-ORDER Thread today.  The Pre-Order will last until the units  actually ship, and through all participating dealers.

There has been a slight delay because we have actually added an additional model.  It is the HD AVA which will be explained in the new thread.

Now that we can do pre-orders, it would be nice if the Nuprime website would start to give some more information about the products. It still says: "... shipping late August", which is kind of silly now in mid October. Any chance?

sorry, too busy catching up to product releases.  Besides these two, HPA-8, DAC-8 and STA-8 are all shipping in November.

That's great news! No chance to get more details of what I ordered? 8)

Note that HD-AVP is has a version of DAC-10 built-in.
It supports 4K video up to HDMI 1.4 spec only.
Why not HDMI 2.0?
1. It was not quite mature when the development started.
2. More importantly (AV expert welcome to comment), if we go with HDMI 2.0, we can not play downloaded movies (I don't mean those that you purchased from iTunes, you get what I mean) from local hard disk.  So I think this spec offers best of both worlds.

HD-AVP is for audio and media server. If you have 4K player, just connect the video to the TV directly.

Thanks for the more detailed information and the manuals.
The missing HDMI 2.0 is a little bit disappointing for a device being released late 2015  :(

One question regarding channel/speaker configuration:
I do have a 5.0 speaker setup and I do also like to listen normal stereo and multi-channel stereo.
What would you suggest as a setup?
a.) Would you simply use the multi-channel output over RCA?

b.) Is there a mix setup of XLR/RCA possible?
For example: FL & FR over XLR and the other three (C, LS & RS) over RCA
And would that make sense?

I have to check if the main L/R channels are also shared by USB DAC outputs, since there is a separate DAC stereo output.

Sure.  The XLR and RCA are both driven. It depends on what you use them for.  If you are mainly using C, LS and RS for movies, then RCA is fine.

How should I understand this? Does this mean that running in a multi-channel setup does not make any use the great DAC?

I am not sure about the details, I have to check with engineering.

Most likely, the DAC is the 9018S. Then it is an 8 channel DAC and "all" channels will be through the the 9018S.

If the HD AVA/AVP has an additional 9018 2 channel DAC for 2 channel only then the XLR and RCA (L&R Mains) might be separate, but I would doubt this.
