Denny:

Edward Wolkow from Foundation Research has offered his time to come and talk about RFI/EFI within Audio at our next meeting.  He has also offered to bring out some of his products to demo on the equipment being shown.

I thought it was a great idea to combine this with the Amp Comparo.....

Let me know your thoughts when you have a moment.

Cheers,

MKOM,

I'm not sure what to expect at this meet yet, so the timing might not be great. But if he'd like to come and let the chips fall where they may, it might work out.

What think?

Cheers

Denny:

Agreed....

I'll run it by him and see what he thinks.....I think that it may be a good thing to incorporate his products within the amp comparison.....It may yield some interesting results that otherwise might go un-noticed, specific to the amps themselves.

I will get back to you as soon as I hear back.....

Cheers,

Hi Denny:

Edward Wolkow from Foundation Research has confirmed that he is available to attend on Saturday, January 27, 2K7, starting at noon.

As per the listing of amps that you have thus far, it would appear that you have a pretty full schedule.

I did notice that the amps range from 300B designs to larger Solid State variety....What pops out is the synergy between these specific designs and the loudspeakers that you plan on using may be in question.

Depending on the objectives, you may find that these lower powered Valve designs may not bid well with less efficient loudspeakers.....Yes, they will work but you may not realize the full potential of the amps and / or the loudspeakers....just a thought.....

Regarding Foundation Research, let me know and I will confirm with him.

Cheers,

MKOM,

I fully realize what you are saying as far as synergy. But take into account that this started as an inpromtu get together between members of TAAS that kinda snowballed into this Comparo. We're just trying to have some fun with it. These are the amps made available to us, and we did not want to preclude anyone from participating. We will have two sets of speakers, with 88db and 91db sensitivities. We will try our best to have it as level a playing field as we can, while far from an ideal scenario, undoubtedly this will still be educational nonetheless.

Perhaps in the future, with a little more planning, we could do it a little differently. There'll be lots of opportunity for that.  :green:

By all means have Edward come out, there will be some other industry folk there as well.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

I would like to come but I'll be coming from London so I'll probably be there only for one day. Do you have a list of which amps will be auditioned which day? What speakers do you have available to go with them?

I am particularily curious about thetube amps.

Cheers,

Rafal

I'll update this as I get itinerary info. Keep checking this post.

Just a recap. The front end driving these amps will be a Bolder Cable fully analog modded Squeezebox 3/with Bolder Cable modded power supply, feeding into a Burson Buffer disrete op-amp, then out to the amps.

Speakers will be GR Research OB 5's (3 way, 91db sensitivity) and RAW Acoustics HT 8's (3 way, 88db sensitivity)

Interconnects and speaker cable will be by Bolder Cable and Electra Cable(GR Research supplied)

Dayglowy, could you remind us of the source that will be used for the comparo? (I'm too lazy to look through 8 pages of posts). CDP? Transport and DAC? Hard drive and.. ?

For me, the source of the music is fundamental to the entire process of audio playback.

No doubt others here put their emphasis on other points in the chain. :) TAAS members, I'm not trying to start a *issing match, just pointing out a concern.

Comparing 11 amps in two days is quite ambitious.  I wouldn’t expect anything too conclusive even if there were only one person doing that kind of evaluation.  How many people are expected to attend?

In order to make the most of this opportunity, I’d suggest you do it in a similar manner to how Danny conducted his digital amp shoot out last year.  Match up amplifiers in pairs.  Don’t let anyone know which is playing so as to set aside all prejudices and listen at a reasonable volume within the range of every amps capacity.

Under such circumstances I’d like to know how the RWA Sig 70’s compare to the Mc MB130’s.

Above all, have fun and stay sober.  :bomb:

I'd be very interested in that too. Especially in hearing the Mc MB130’s
