My sister and I just returned to the midwest from a long, cross-country road trip. On the way back, we skirted along the historic, Route 66. These pics were taken in downtown Tucumcari, New Mexico.

A nice pano that uses a little, different processing approach than gfroman's stunning photos.

A nice slice of history Din. Is that your Pontiac in the garage ? Or were you driving a Corvette convertible ?

Good to 'see' you back in the neighborhood.  :thumb:

Thanks JD! I wish I could have said, "Yes, we were in a '57 Vette or '57 T-Bird with porthole windows...!" But, nay... it was only the family's Mercedes SUV, which seemed awfully out-of-place.
Nonetheless, the landscape and the light of the great, American southwest is strikingly beautiful. There is an effort to bring back the charm of Route 66, and I loved the memories of my once-upon-a-time youth.
We still got our 'kicks" on the trip!

Cadillac Ranch:  Here's a pretty interesting "art installation" just outside of Amarillo, Texas. It was created about 10 years ago when the artist buried 10 Cadillac Cars
nose first into the ground. It's quite a site from the highway, and people stop to spray paint and graffiti the cars with their own ideas and designs.
By the way, these are the real colors of the cars; they change by the moment due to constant arrival of spray painting tourists. Pretty intense and pretty weird and kinda cool!

Hi bside,

I'm an old fart. I was pretty sure I'd heard of this a lot more than 10 years ago. I just googled it and it said it was created in 1974.

Anyway, nice interesting pics. Crazy stuff!  :thumb:

Great distance pic, which captures it beautifully.

Musically, Bruce Springsteen had his 'Cadillac Ranch' on 'The River'; the late John Stewart had his on 'Rough Sketches', a great Southwest album.

Hi Gene!

I went and read-up a little... like you said. I guess the Cadillac Ranch was first inaugurated in the 70s. It was 10 years ago that the installation was relocated to this particular place. Thanks for your reply.

PS. Apparently, a bunch of us around here fall into the "old fart" category!

Oh man... Been to that area several times.
No amount of SD cards and post processing can properly convey the amount of 'awesome' from that section of the southwest United States.
