Title: Any news on the new 8in NX woofer
Post by: BrandonB on 13 Nov 2022, 06:43 pm
I am having such a hard time deciding on which speakers to go with.  Any news or direction on what you guys are going to do with the new 8in NX woofer.  Just curious as to what those speakers will be best suited for.

No updates at this time.
We have some ideas, but other projects are in still ahead of it.

I would love to see a concept with the 8" NQ utilized as a stand/bass lower section (the Bass Base?) for a NX tower similar to a X-statik. I am visualizing similar to the LGK tower concept that was discussed in another thread.

I see the progression of my setup from Encore mains being something open baffle to go with my Voce center, but would much rather make the jump in quality to a planar tweeter/NQ woofer than to go through the time and expense of crafting an X-statik from scratch.

A NX freestander solution with either sealed bass or an open baffle bass component would seem to have a market for those that want something more than studios with OB subs, which frankly is a ton of gear sitting out in the room and complexity to contend with. I could see where that might start competing with Oticas in terms of the GR line, but not everyone has the space or desire for a speaker of that scale.

A bass tower for my Studios to sit lower than on a Double Trouble kit would be amazing. For me, tweeter height sits great when bottom of speaker is at 23" off floor. Small room, so minimal distance to offset mismatched tweeter heights. A double 8"NX woofer base packed with a class D amp and it'd be too good to be true. I don't need 120db down to 7.83hz. I feel a stereo set of 2x8" woofer tower stands could (fingers crossed) output close to the same depth and way more articulate sound compared to my pair of SVS sealed subs. Could be fun.
