Stage 2 and stage 3 mods should be completed by the end of this month.

Danny can you update us on the availability status of the stage 2 and stage 3 mods please? Thanks.

As much as I'd like to say that the stage 2 mod will be available on such and such date, I really can't.

Jeff has a pair ready for me to pick up again. I have to get them, burn them in for 25 hours then A/B them taking notes as to the strengths or weaknesses of each...

This isn't one of those deals where we swap out this or that parts with what we think are better and call it a great mod. We want this to be the most worth while mod that it can be and that means really listening to know what type of parts will make the most difference and what parts will have the best synergy with this DAC.

If you are in hurry and can't wait then don't. Order one now with a stage 1 mod. It is the most bang for the buck by far of anything that could be done to this DAC. Then you can send it in later for further stages of mods.

We were hoping to have this stage finished at the end of last month, but it just didn't happen. There are other things that we really want to try. I don't want to have to tell someone that , oh yea, we figured out a way to make it better after we have already sold it to our customers. I don't want there to be a new mod every month.

With what is being done to the DAC in the stage 2 mod, I would expect the price to come in at around the $1,800 to $2,000 range (including the price of the DAC).

Quality and speed are most of the time going against each other.  Your strategy is good Danny, don't compromise quality just to get the product out quickly, we are always too impatient in our modern world, we don't appreciate enough the value of quality and the time it takes to achieve it.

YOU BET! I think we all agree its better to do something really right as opposed to really quick!

The DAC-60 Level 1 moded unit with the Electra Interconnects are here and broken in for 30 hours.  Having fun comparing it to my other DAC's and transports.  Sounds very good so far. :D

Would you mind sharing more about the sound of level 1 mod?  Does yours have I2S input?  Thanks.

My DAC-60 Level 1 mod unit does not have an USB or I2S Bus input.  Using the Coaxial input.

Been very busy lately.  Still doing listening trials.

I just finished A/B'ing the Silver one and the Black one again, took notes, and reported my findings. They go back to Sonic Craft today. Slowly but surely we are figuring out what sounds best, and what parts will be used in the final design.

That is funny, I was just on the phone with Jeff over the last hour discussing this.

We have really nailed some areas of major improvements on this thing and it is really going to be special. I am taking one with me to the RMAF that has about 75% of the new mods in it. I can't believe how much better it sounds over a stock unit.

Jeff says there is still about 6 more things he wants to try first before finalizing the end result just to see if it can be improved further still in those areas.

We are both ready to get it finished and out there and i will be back to comparing two units as soon as I get back from the RMAF.

As far as a release date though I really can't say yet.

Will there be a mod option to have both balanced and unbalanced outputs that can be used simultaneously?

There will not be a version with balanced outputs.
