Shaky hands, need help
« on: 25 Aug 2019, 11:05 pm »
So my hands a shaky as a result of side effects of an Rx.

Are there any devices that will put the needle on the record for me?  I know there are gadgets that lift it up at the end, but never seen one for the beginning.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

How so? Does your turntable have no handle lever?

If you are unable to use your cue lever, why not get an automatic.  There are several that are much better than audiophools give credit.
The JVC QL-F6 was highly recommended by the late John TCG,  and I can attest to it as well.  With a motor structure on par with some of the very best DD tables, and an arm that is several step ups from typical for an automatic,  all it needs to compete with some high end tables is more mass (add modeling clay to the plinth) and better feet (Herbie's).

Here's one for $200.      https://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-Turntable-QL-F6/392359053516?hash=item5b5a6c08cc:g:xMUAAOSwOSddLlLJ:sc:FedExHomeDelivery!79562!US!-1

Thorens has a selection of fully automatic belt drive turntables:

You did not say what turntable you have? Most turntables have a cueing lever, if yours do have one. why not use that? Saves you having to get a new turntable if you are happy with what you have already.

It has a cue lever, which takes care of the up/down anxiety of course.  I still have to contend with lining it up to the beginning of the record, which can be frustration for me.  But that's low risk.

The thorens 240-2 does look interesting but would be a step down from my current rig (vpi hw19 mk4 with a bunch of upgrades).

Selling and shipping the vpi would be a hassle, more so than dealing with cuing anxiety.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Hey rif i hope with more practise, your cueing / lining up becomes easier. Enjoy the music.  :)

You could always try a puff or two of cannabis a few minutes before operating the turntable.  It may not help but some people have found it settles down tremors.

It's certainly up to each individual to be aware of the laws in whatever country they live in and also the risks.  Always best to check out anything you do in life before you do it.  I bet in some countries following a recommendation to buy a Black Sabbath album would be breaking the law.
