Title: The Velvet Underground & Nico (45th Anniversary Remaster) in HiDef
Post by: ddafoe on 6 Sep 2013, 01:13 am
Hi,

Just curious if anyone has purchased the 96kHz/24bit download from HDTracks and compared it to the CD?
I was listening to my 16 bit ripped version recently and realized how much I like the album but I was not that happy with the sound quality on a few songs (Femme Fatale specifically).
I would be willing to buy the HD version if I knew it was a good step up in sonics.

Thanks
Deene

It is much better than the CD but it isn't a great recording to begin with. The download is smoother and more organic sounding. It is a bona fide improvement but don't expect miracles.

Thanks for the info; it sounds like it is worth the upgrade the next time I get an HDTracks 10% off coupon...

This is a bit off topic but do check out Beck's Record Club version of this album.
It is actually a nice attempt.

I just checked out the Record Club.   I didn't know about it, and yea it does sound pretty good.   I like the Leonard Cohen covers too...
