BALANCED IN (xlr) OR UNBALACED IN (rca?)

Many years I wondered why taking the trouble of balanced inputs or outputs .
Obviously I never heard an AB comparison.

But when building your own sweet AKSA amp the possibility is there to wire the input for balanced mode. (when you preamp/dac or cd player has xlr)

Is there a real listenable advantage to be gained? I have so many expensive rca cables, which will become obsolete when using xlr cables, which I don't have yet

Well I got my answer from a very well known source .. It is more for professional very long interconnects. It surpresses noise that way and weakens even order distortion. Odd harmonic distortion is much less listenable and balanced configuration does not hinder that kind of distortion. It is more expensive and wil not be less than RCA interconnects, as it will surpress the noise in cables, but how much is there in very short high class cables?
