Looking for a single disk or RAID 1 music server solution?

These folks are great to deal with.  They're about the only place I buy any more.

Dang, that's some serious deal.  Also the 500 Gig Version is less than $100.

I just posted something similar the other day on my forums. Basically using this harddrive and a really great external enclosure for additional storage. If you want to see my recommendation it is at http://www.computeraudiophile.com/node/8

Anyone have a suggestion for a good, durable, shock resistant external hard drive enclosure for this drive? The unit would be for a friend who travels 6 month a year and then lives in a fire lookout the other 6 months, so she travels a lot. Vents or a fan would be necessary, no a/c in the wilderness. And affordable too, fire spotters don't make a lot of money, an $80 unit would be a deal breaker.

Antec MX-1 is a very good external case that is rated for 24/7 use.  Lots of Tivo folks use them.  Not cheap, but comes with all the goodies and is a nice case.  I bought one for teaming an external 1TB drive to the upgraded 1TB drive inside my Tivo...

I need a new hard-drive. I am wondering, which brands/model are quietest? I own a LaCie and a Maxtor. Both have been very reliable but they are both loud. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Seagates were very quiet but, haven't any experience with the new Free-Agent models.

mwave is local to me and i usually do will call from them.  That makes me happy, unlike newegg, which is also local to me, but not only refuses to do will call, they also refused to let me return a large 40lb. package in person, forcing me to spend nearly $40 shipping the package to them 2 miles down the street.

For hard drive specs see this site http://www.storagereview.com/leaderboard_movement

"Because it still runs a bit over $100, Samsung's 500-gigabyte SpinPoint T166 does not quite qualify as a true "entry-level" drive in the eyes of many. Nontheless, it combines leading performance with the quietest operation one can ask for in a 3.5" drive and comes highly recommended."
