New pre amp/processor
« on: 14 Apr 2021, 05:12 pm »
My Emotiva UMC-1 is headed to the graveyard and trying to figure out what to get to replace it. I had been connecting my hard drives, blu ray and tv all via HDMI. I'd like to keep the budget to around 500 so it looks like an AV receiver with pre outs. Are there any other choices that are viable. Tv and movie viewing and 2 channel music. Wanting to still use my tube amp. Thanks

I'm not aware of any new AVRs at the $500 price point that have pre-outs. You might be able to find an older model like the Marantz SR-5012 or 5013 that is still new but sitting in a warehouse somewhere for close to that but the current SR-5015 is $1,199.

Sometimes I find deals on older models like this by going into the Magnolia Center at my local Best Buy and asking what deals are available on older models and/or open box in their system.

How many channels of Pre-Outs are you after?

I bought the Yamaha that Costco carried a few years ago that had pre outs for front L/R channels. I think the current one has that same option, but not sure. Well under $500.

Accessories 4 less has a couple of Marantz refurbished models for 500 to 700 with pre out. I was hoping for a higher quality preamp but think I will have to settle.

Does it have to be new?   All kinds of opportunities on used preamps.  Their lifespans being so short.
That costco Yamaha is well under 500.  It only has stereo preouts: Yamaha TSR-700 7.1-Channel Network AV Receiver
