Welcome! The database is owned by gracenote.com. If the files are not voluminous, a free program like MP3 Tag can be used to manually update tags

it just that if i have to use mp3 tag, i have to get all the music files to my computer and then transfer them back,

but i would be so much better if the olive o4 just in the first place when ripping cd´es have a updated database, or connection to one that isent out of date.

freedb.org, is no more :(

Greetings & Velkommen to AC Erikz  :thumb:  Not familiar with the gear noted, but there are other databases available. MusicBrainz & Discogs Tagger are two that MediaMonkey uses.

If your Olive music server is connected to your network, you should be able to click on the folder once you rip it from your PC and use MP3 tag.  I use a NAS device and it is connected to my network and can click on a CD folder and use MP3 Tag from my PC.  You would also want to back up your music files.  You could also buy something like dbPoweramp (https://www.dbpoweramp.com/cd-ripper.htm) to rip them (it is not horribly expensive) and then copy them via the network to the Olive and that way you would have a copy of the ripped CD in two places.  Unless something is obscure, dbPoweramp does a good job of tagging and you can check it before you rip it and edit it if you wish.

it not the worst solution, except that the music on the device is not accessible by network, you can upload. but the stored media is not accesible unless you use at scp client

and the tag info is stored not with the music itself but in a databse

Doesn't the music server have a network ethernet jack (the review I read said it did and when it was new it had to use the internet to look up the CD data)?  So if you rip via dbPoweramp (or whatever) on your PC (and even if you use the free MP3 Tag program) and have the music on your PC and hook the Olive up to your network (even if it has to be moved), it should allow easy copying.  You can also get ethernet to powerline adapters (about $50 US - they work like this - https://www.tp-link.com/us/powerline/) and put the sending unit near your PC connected to your network and the receiving unit in a plug in back of the Olive, you can create a network connection.

This is true, but i Will love to have the auto tagging work, kinda defeat the purpose of the unit if it dosent tag

It's older technology (does not mean the unit doesn't sound good).  I used the that same database (that the Olive used) with a program called Audiofile many moons ago.  In fact I bought both Audiofile and Videofile programs and still use Videofile, although Videofile involves manually inputting information about movies (e.g. DVD, tape, director, title, actors, etc.).  With Videofile, I am able to keep track of what I have (one can also do that I believe at IMDB) and get reports by actor, director, genre, etc.  Older digital technology is in many cases going to have disadvantages.  There are products which do what you would like but they are going to come at a much higher cost (e.g. Aurender products).
