The most realistic speakers I've heard reproducing small-combo jazz have been pure electrostatics. They're fast, coherent, and extraordinarily transparent. When I think jazz, I think of situations where I'm in a relatively small room, probably within 20 feet or so of the stage. Electrostatics reproduce air, transients, breath, shimmer, fingers sliding along strings, etc., like nothing else.
Granted, there's a lot more to music than just that and there are a lot of different jazz styles, but I'm not sure that anything does intimacy better than an electrostatic.
