Bud Powell - Time Waits

Yeah, that's a quintessential bop piano trio. Recently I got its LP from Bluenote "Classic Vinyl Series." Sounds terrific. Sam Jones and Philly Joe Jones sound as inspired as Bud.

I have Corea and Monk's albums but not others you mention. Got to check them out! Especially Kenny Barron Trio. Don't have a single album by him or his trio.

It's one of those albums that everybody says "Wow, that sounds great!" Even non-jazzers.
Not in print anymore, but there's lots of Kenny Barron streaming, with similar personnel.
PM me if you want copy

richidoo,

Recognized the cover immediately, found it in my collection and relistened to it tonight. Great recommendation.

I think that Andy Simpkins was one of the most underrated upright, jazz bassists ever. My favorite.

would have to add the Hapton Hawes trio. If you can find the King Records pressings they are excellent.

Just found this comment:

At about the time that Erroll gave this delightful performance, he lived directly above us at 315 W. 70th, where our rent was $100/month. When he practiced (which seemed to be all the time) we could hear the same grunts through our ceiling.  13 years later, he was dead.

He was very kind whenever we ran into him. A quite short, very pleasant person. Note how he messes around with the bassist with his meandering intros.
The Isley Bros lived on the first floor.
So many untold stories.

those are really good. East Wind made a series of 6 or 7 of these recordings. Some were Direct to disc; some recorded to tape but they all are great jazz with excellent sonics.
