For me, if you're on a solid floor like concrete, then spiking is usually a good option.  On the other hand if you're on a floating floor (usually wood), then isolation products might be better. 
I am like Carlman: I have concrete over earth (slab on grade), and I don't understand how spikes (or isolation) help.  What is the explanation of what spikes do on concrete? 

Or carpet and pad on concrete?

I have my listening room in a bonus room and the house is built on footers, no slab. I tried the hack and it performed as advertised for my system, Thank you for the tip, much appreciated!
