I'd take retirement over these speakers.
I'll even throw in some Kimber 12TCs to hook them up with!

Really good, they're keepers.

I was thinking I could add a turntable, a CD burner and a tube tuner and be perfectly happy just with that system.
The way all that stuff came together the sound is just perfect to my ears.

I tried to find a spot for the LRS' but there was just no room left in the inn so they were sold last night.
I think the new owner will really enjoy them.

Sounds good Steve  :D

Do you still have the Maggie 1.7s and the 3.7s in systems as you have listed in your Systems page?

Yep.
If Magnepan does a + version of them I'll be speaking shopping again.
Otherwise, this will do me aside from replacing the old MMGs with another pair of MMG-Ws.

How would you compare the LRS + to the 1.7.

1.7i is better. Remember the speaker calls for juice no matter what model. In my experience the amp is very important in making them sing properly. Be prepared to make changes. Always liked a tubed preamp with SS or class D mono blocks. A fine speaker.

I don't have any experience with the i version of the 1.7 but you've got more dynamics with the LRS+ and more detail, too.

It'll be the same as it always was: what size room are you putting them in?

My friend was looking for a 12 x 24 living room.

1.7i has considerably more output capability and a taller soundstage, both issues for the smaller maggies

i consider the 1.7i as the minimum true full range maggie, in terms of top to bottom balance (read: sufficient bass output) and a full life size soundstage

of course, as stated earlier by others, it is all about the room size, setup, seating position relative to the panels etc...  and also, of course, the issue of bass response of the lrs/+ and .7 can be solved with proper subwoofer support, and correct stands can raise the image height and let the speaker stand truly vertical

For a 12 x 24' room they'd be too puny.
10 x 12' they'd be perfect.

What I thought was break-in taking forever was the CD player.
With the LRS I had too much bass with a Rega Saturn so had to stick in a recent Rega Apollo which was just perfect.
With the LRS+ I could go back to the Saturn and that worked just perfect.

The Absolute Sound's Jonathan Valin has a review of the LRS+

"...this is a great little loudspeaker and a sure-fire nominee for one of TAS’ 2022 Product of the Year Awards."

I don't know about these videos, I keep waiting for the hot lingerie model in her underwear that's fun to wear giving a review.
Instead, it's two old guys or three or four guys sitting around or sometimes just one guy.
Little teaser about this sub they're working on but I don't see them actually showing it.

The LRS+ can throw an image beyond the confines of the listening room.
On this one Brian Eno track somebody with a whistle was coming from the bathroom to the left of my listening position.

I see the LRS+ is now listed on the Magnepan website.

Still no Maggie sub that’s been talked about/promoted forever.

Nary a peep.
I think the price of it will make it a white elephant.

One key for their sub is how to make it/them fit visually into a room. The few pics that have been available look attractive… but adding 2 mid size triangular towers may be an issue for some.

The VPE Electrodynamics Little Dipole Woofer is available and shipping today ! Not sure when Wendell’s woofer will be ready but it will likely be expensive according to Robert Raus.  We will demonstrate both the LDW Model 1 and the new VPE Model 2 Dipole Woofer for the big Maggies and Quads at AXPONA in April 2023.  Look for us in Rm. 502.   Just down the hallway from Magnepan, LOL !!
