Crispy critter
« on: 17 Jan 2022, 02:35 pm »
Hi folks
I have a problem with my Classic. It doesn’t shut off.
Took the motor apart and found this crispy cap across the positive and ground legs. Am assuming this is the problem. Switch checks out fine. I guess this is a line noise shunt. Have ordered some caps in order to replace this one but I don’t know if the voltage value makes a difference. This crispy cap does not have a value anywhere on it. So could I get some advice on its use and a value to shoot for?
Thanks
Marc

Hey!

Ouch! At least the turntable still spin so that's a good thing.

Anyway, that cap does have a value but as a code "103Z" so that's a 0.01uf cap. These caps are easy to find but when you get a new one beside the right voltage, also get one with better tolerance, I think "Z" is the at bottom.

Cool. Was just concerned I might be getting in over my head and starting to mess with speed or something I haven’t thought of.
I enjoy your AK posts.
Thanks

Found a 103K at Mouser.
Your entry helped me to understand these caps. Not all the way there but on the way.
Thanks
