Low distortion and great DR amp.
« on: 18 Apr 2021, 10:33 pm »
Hi, new to Audio Circle.

Looking at SS amp.(for the 1st time in a decade) to replace my humming 300b amp. -  for my high efficiency speakers (97db) and streamer front end.

Torn between: Benchmark AHB2 and a Purifi Audio 1ET400A Amplifier. Both with super low distortion and great DR. (Purify better suits my budget)

Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks!

If 15 watts of class A power will do...I've been very happy with this amp...I even bought a second one so I can Bi-Amp less efficient loudspeakers.

Steven,

That's an interesting amp at a very surprising price. I haven't been around a Class A amp in over 15 years. How hot does this one get, and do you feel that the heatsinks are adequate? Thanks for whatever info you have to offer.

A friend recently got a Purify amp from VTV he's very happy with. I can't remember which input buffer he got. He's a tube lover at heart, but appreciates how far class D has come and loves their efficiency (especially in the warmer months). I know he got the buffer that has the most tube-like harmonic character. Ask them about the different input buffer options. They have many to suit different needs / tastes, including the stock buffer. https://vtvamplifier.com/product/vtv-amplifier-stereo-purifi-audio-1et400a-amplifier/

These are decent amps.  I’ve had one for a few years now and rotate it in and out of a second system.  The sound signature is very similar to my Pass ACA
