Howdy all,

I recently acquired a pair of naked Quad ESL speakers.  Running them with my AudioKinesis Swarm Sub system and sounding just delicious.  I am planning to power them with an EL-84 based amp for the long run.

Having owned Martin Logans and Quad 988s in the past (also friends that own Magnepans) I am re-appreciating the purity that planar speakers provide.

Kudos to Mr. Ford and the participants of this circle.  It's a good place!

Just got them last Saturday in my (almost finished) new room: Bryston 28B-SST/2 Pro + Maggie 20.7.  Have to run them in a bit more, but so far, a pretty awesome combo.

I was admiring those over on the Bryston Circle.
That's a BIG room you've got them in and that is an awfully nice system.
Congratulations on your purchase!

Beautiful looking room and treatments. Can you please advise what the distance from the back of the 20'7s is to the wall behind them?

Thank you all for your kind words.

The room is about 8.54 (L). x 5.94 (W). x 3.15/3.65 (H) in meters, or 28.0' x 19.4' x 10.3'/12'.

As of now, the bass panels are set to be about 1.70 meters from wall behind them, or around 1/5 of the room length.

The outside edges of the speakers are about 90 cm. away from the side walls.

I'm sitting around 4 meters away from the speakers, or roughly at the theoretically recommended 2/3 of the room length.

MtnHam,
Somebody told me that you're inviting us all over for a party at your place.
I misplaced the invitation, when is the date again?

Any member seriously interested in visiting is welcome. However, be advised I in live in the boonies of NorCal, about 3 hours north of SF, and an hour from almost anywhere, at the end of a private 5 mile gravel ranch road! If you are an intrepid and serious planar lover, send a PM.

It sounds like you're only 3,000 miles away.
Leave the porch light on, please!

ESL surround setup

Hi everyone, can't believe I missed this thread, so a bit late, but here goes.

This is a highly customized setup featuring modified all active-XO MartinLogan Monolith III's in the front, Sequel II's as rears and a completely custom center channel based on an SL3. Supported by an Infinite Baffle sub and 14 channels of amplification all located in a custom designed A/V room with a full suite of retail and  custom acoustic treatments, this is a true 'reference' system.

Front of room, showing Monoliths next to 100" acoustically transparent screen. Sidewall custom acoustic treatments feature recycled ESL stators with colored lights behind them.

Rear of room, note that old CRT is gone, and a 4K JVC Projector hangs behind/over the main seats now.

And here is my pride an joy, my custom ESL center speaker I call the SL3XC, combining line array mid-bass and an ESL. Active XO via DBX 4800 drive rack (all front speakers). It is bolted to the top of my Infinite Baffle sub.

Full build story on that center here.

More details on the system at my site.

MOST impressive. Great website too.  :thumb:
I'll have to check the build thread when time allows.
Good to see a HT guy with a spectacular room. (note, there's a HT area here with a thread specifically for showing off HT rooms....<hint> ....)

Fantastic setup!  Just curious... what mid-bass woofers are those in your center-channel's vertical array?

Does anyone else's cat do this ??
It can't be very comfortable, 6 feet up there on a space about 1.5" wide.
But he seems to like it. I played a variety of drum test tracks at a healthy volume. He would not budge.

Just set up the new flagship speaker from BG Corp. the FS880.
They replaced my prototype LA 800's in walls that we modded to dipole.
They consist of a total of: 12 NE0 10's mids, 32 NEO 3's tweeters and (8) 8inch drivers powered by (2) 1200 watt BG amps.

They are the most dynamic, transparent speaker I have ever listened to.
They are so smooth and detailed that 100db feels like 75db.
This lack of strain and effortlessness at high levels is due to many factors
1. active Pass Labs Xover with Gold Point Attenuators
2. Pass XA60.5's on the tweeters
3. Luxman M600A's monos on the Midrange Neo 10's
4. 2400 watts from BG Amps on the woofers

We also use (4) BG 12sb subs along with (2) 6ft tall 15 inch driver transmission line subs

Thanks, bisp.

Yes, they're DIY diffusors behind the speakers and LF/bass traps at room corners (per Rives Audio design).

You can see more pictures in my gallery.
