They're sitting in their boxes, alas . . . :-| Have to go back to Magnepan to get the dent repaired.

Inspired by the Soundlab Sallies ($2170/pr.) I put these free-standing absorptive panels (24"x72") together for around $150. Had the cedar trim laying in my shed for about 10 yrs. and found the 4" acoustic foam on Ebay. Took me a couple hours to build. Mine works best around 30" behind my 6' OB panels (pix in this thread). The great thing is you can easily move them to dial in the sound you want. I highly recommend anyone setting up their Maggies, Logans, Sanders, etc... less than 10' from the rear wall, give them a try. My OBs were already 5' from the rear wall and the difference using the acoustic panels is big--greatly improving both tonal balance and imaging.

This is the diaphragm layout for a full range planar using 50 x 18 x 10 mm ferrite magnets, this is my latest rebuild using the epsilon layout.

Could you repost your photos?  They didn't load correctly for whatever reason.

Last 28 years in the factory box in the game room closet on a shelf.
However...They sound very nice. Very accurate reproduction.. especiallly piano passages
Not quite like the full sound of my venerable 1.6 QRs but might be easier to fit in my casket!  :thumb:

They actually still look like brand new. There are a couple of very slight age spots (slightly lightened ) but nary a scratch anywhere. No rust on the feet  etc. I do love their sound and can describe it as very accurate from 50hz up.
Mids are sweet and the highs a little light for my tastes. These are not drivin' hard heavy rock speakers and at times I think they get a little bit overwhelmed if driven too hard with marginal amps.
But instrumentals and voice are their sweet spot. Classical guitar and piano solos are sublime.
I use them with mid 70's vintage muscle receivers and they just sing.

Those are SMGs if I am not mistaken. They look like the pair I bought in 1981. I used them for 5 years in my main system until I replaced them with MG IIIs. They had a basic 1st order network which I promptly upgraded with better caps.
They then served as the rear channels in my system when I watched movies. They were fed by a Fosgate surround processor and driven by the power amp half of a NAD 3020. For $500 they were a taste of the high life and a true bargain. They did lead straight to the hard stuff though and fueled the desire for the MGIIIs.

First gen stuff. Might wanna keep those in the family, keep everything and they could eventually go up in value like a classic car.

Yup they are the original almost bookshelf maggie...SMG
They actually were $900 in 1980. Not going anywhere as I really enjoy walking into my study/library and seeing them kind of like some my 100 year old classic books.  Hearing them cooing in the background is very comforting on cold nights and SMG with coffee on a Saturday morning is satisfying as well.
We live in a FLW inspired 100+ year old  home complete with his and hers libraries,  59 windows and 32 year old maggies, vintage Pioneer , Kenwood and Rotel muscle power plants and the SMG just seem to fit here.

Some seriously nice systems here.  I remember my Acoustat 3300 days drive by Hafler gear including an XL600.  Way back in the day my large corporate employer actually owned Rockford and I was able to get spare parts before they were all gone.  But alas the speakers are long gone now.

Yesterday I installed a stereo in my friend Jason's car.  In exchange, he put together this planar porn video for me:

I love Carver equipment.  Next month I plan to meet the BobFather himself (Bob Carver) at the Axpona 2012 Audio Show in Jacksonville FL.  The BobFather has come out of retirement and is now marketing tube amps with awesome power.  I can't wait to hear them.  He's even gonna bring back a 900 watt/channel version of his infamous Silver Seven tube mono blocks.

Stax F81's are pure magic !

Stax F83's are stacked Stax F81's---double the magic. I use mine with Roger Modjeski's subwoofers and electronic crossovers.  Those who want to share the magic should check with Kent McCollum of Electrostatic Solutions, who rebuilds these.  He may have a pair or two for sale coming up.
