Surely there are more of you out there?
San Fran / San Jose / Oakland / Sacramento and surrounding regions must comprise some 5% of the US's population...with 9500 members registered at AC now, we should have (at least) some 475 NorCal'ers in our midst )
We need 469 more to prove this...................

I use to live in the 707 code (Lakeport) but I'm in the 630 code now. I have been, to every town on the TheChairGuy list, but that was a long time ago. Still like to hear whats going on out there.:smoke:
630 is Glendale Heights about 30 miles west of Chicago.

Where's 630, Mark? I'm only living here for 4+ years now...and travel a lot so I don't know my area (or area codes) as well as I should yet

Greeting Kurt - welcome to AC :thumb:
-
Thanks for the hospitality, CG. I'm pretty new to the AC having spent most of my time to date at AA, AK, and DIYAudio.
It's nice over here!
I'm currently into a few (too many) projects. The first priority is to finish an SCA-35 rebuild with ST-35 amp boards and a Scott Nixon DacKit. Then I'll fiinish a stand-alone Scott Nixon TDKit with multiple inputs that I've started. Then I'd like to create a more sophisticated "Digital Preamp" that can directly feed a tube power amp that has all digital sources. There's more but writing it reminds me about how crazy this hobby is. :o
Happy 4th to everyone.

Hey Kurt, coolio :)
We try to stay even-handed. I get a little shitty sometimes, as does oft-prickly supreme leader JohnR...and Occam, the lad in The Lab, by design or nature. The rest of the moderators are more much congenial at all times here at AC.
It's a good place, overall - we try not to let one's voice and honest opinions get shouted down.
I try to remember the heavy-handedness Galileo was given for proposing that the earth actually was NOT the center of the universe...so time, rather than circumstance, will be the arbitrator of 'rightness' sometimes. Poor guy wasn't exonerated but for 360 years later.....THAT's hard feelings

In the hills, near Cragmont Park.
In the hills of what, Phil?
I'm sorry - I've lived here only less than 5 years now and have seen and done a bunch, but don't know every nook and cranny yet. Is Cragmont Park a town, or a section of a larger town/city I should know?
'Cause, I don't
Thanks - re-reading this it looks a little smart-assy....but, it's not in any way meant to be that :)
Thanks, John
-
Cragmont Park is in the North Berkeley Hills. I'm sure he "assumed" you knew that as a fellow Bezerkeleyite! Martin just down the hill in El Cerrito.
-
Okay, now I'm starting to get it.....but, I'm not in Berkeley. I'm across the bridge in Tiburon. Been to Berkeley several dozen times, but don't know each neighborhood intimately yet.
Meiching....are you saying you're 'Martin' and live in El Cerrito? (I'm 98% certain that's what you meant)
Thanks, John

Well I have traded the Super Tower III's as an even swap for a different system (Tannoy V12's and a pair or VMPS larger subs) with one of my dear friends so they are still in the family! I am mostly happy but the Tower III's are very special speakers indeed. He has a long room and my system is now in a different room that would have been a challenge to get the Towers to work well in. I need to update my gallery with some new pics! But I will see if my buddy may want to host a audiophile pow wow for the norcal audiocirclers :thumb:

It's been 30 years since I lived in Northern Calif, but it used to be only "foreigners" referred to "The City" as Frisco. It was kind of a dig back then.
-
yep agreed "frisco" was highly frowned upon and a sure sign that you did not live here/nearby. I knew better after a month of arriving here from the east coast, about 18 years ago.
But "what is old is new again." So it seems that "frisco" is somewhat in vogue, since the term is sort of retro and the seventies look seems to be swinging back around again (in fashion anyway).

I describe the location of Discovery Bay thusly - approximately one-hour East of San Francisco, one-half-hour West of Stockton, and one-half-hour North of Livermore. To be specific it is here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q=Discovery%20Bay%2C%20CA (http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q=Discovery%20Bay%2C%20CA)
I've been in NORCal since 1996, 4 years in the Santa Cruz mountains (Los Gatos/Boulder Creek), 5 in Brentwood and now 4 in Discovery Bay. I am a from SoCal - born (but not raised) in LA and lived in North San Diego county from 1977-1993.

Haven't lived there (San Francisco) in years but can't miss a chance to reminisce. The lower Haight right across the street from 1090 Page near Divisadero. Big Brother used to rehearse in the parlor. Traded the owner of Both/And on Divisadero some avant garde jazz albums for lifetime free admission. A block off upper Fillmore on Sacramento across from the dental college. Japanese town. Honeymooned at Deetjin's Big Sur Inn on the coastal highway. Plan to visit Carmel early next year.

Capitola, but as a true Northern Californian - Fort Bragg - I think of everything south of Sonoma County as Central California, and even Sonoma County is suspect. Funny story - when I was in Europe I met a woman from Eureka and when I told her I was from Northern California, since I was from Fort Bragg she told me that up in Eureka Fort Bragg isn't considered Northern California. Maybe people in Crescent City lump Eureka in with Los Angeles.

Ahhh, the never ending debate, do we have 3 states in one, or just two. I've always considered it two states, So-Cal and Nor-Cal, I draw the line at SLO town (San Luis Obispo).

When we were looking, we checked out "Big Red", the place near Page and Broderick where many of the the George Clinton P-Funk gang lived or hung out, which was on the market at the time. Amazing place, price was right, but would have cost a fortune to do the repairs it needed 10 years ago.

Hello everybody:
First day on Audio Circle so this will serve as an introduction as well.
Living in Novato (Marin County). Current system is Yamaha CR 1020 since 1978 (it refuses to die), B&W CDM7SE speakers and a NAD C568 CD player.
While the Yamaha is in the shop for its decadal servicing (getting harder every time to find a service tech nearby), I’m having fun with a Fosi Audio TP3116 mini-amplifier in its place. For 30ish dollars from Amazon, it provides more than enough power to drive the B&Ws with a surprisingly good sound. This break from the Yammie has me thinking about a 10-20 watt audiophile quality backup with a contemporary low power speaker backup as well. As I type, I have a pair of Amp Camp Academy speaker kits waiting for assembly. DIY open baffle, full-range speakers have caught my attention for simplicity and cost in Audio Circle.
Anyhow, enough for an introduction, I look forward to exploring Audio Circle!

Hi Everyone!
Im in the Sacramento area.
New to Audiocircle, but been into HiFi for many years, looking forward to making some new friends!
Been feeling really detached in this new post-COVID environment. Working from home and not getting out much i feel like i have unintentionally self-isolated myself and so I am looking for ways to connect with like minded people and get back out into the world, lol...are there ever any NorCal meet-ups that happen?
Thanks!
